Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall is adding another sitcom to her IMBD profile, with news that she’s taking on a major recurring role in Hulu’s How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Father.
The actress will be playing the future version of Hilary Duff’s character Sophie. The spinoff is reminiscent of the original How I Met Your Father series, in the sense that the main character, Sophie, speaks to her children about how she met their father – much like Ted Mosby did in the original version.
The pilot episode will be directed by Pam Fryman, who directed 196 out of 208 episodes of HIMYM and she will be joined by original series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
Duff shared her excitement about Catrall joining the cast on Instagram, “When @kimcattrall said yes I screamed. Now can we please get a better pic than this one I dug up from the deep web 😂 @himyfonhulu.” She wrote alongside an old photo of the two actresses together.
Along with being the main actor, Duff will also produce the new sitcom, which doesn’t have an official release date, but is said to be premiering sometime next year.
“I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie. As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that [HIMYM creators] Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby,” Duff said about the new series, per Deadline.
“Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fan-girling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½s in there.”
