Kim Kardashian West has copped rightful backlash for her ill-timed birthday party announcements on social media.
For her 40th birthday, the reality tv superstar decided to whisk away her family and close friends to a private tropical island for a big vacation. Lucky for some.
The birthday girl treated her loved ones to a COVID-safe week-long trip, which saw her chartering a Boeing 777 to a private island and handing guests keys to their own villas on the beach, according to TMZ.
Money was obviously for not a factor for the insanely wealthy West and she said it was her way of thanking her loved ones for supporting her over the years.
“40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter,” she wrote in a lengthy post shared on Instagram and Twitter.
“For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today. Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment.”
She explained that prior to flying, her guests had all taken coronavirus tests to ensure everyone’s health and safety wasn’t at risk.
“After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time,” she wrote.
“We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is.”
The trip to cool waters landed Kim in hot waters though. With COVID-19 gripping the world, especially the U.S., her ill-advised post was blasted for being in poor taste.
“I feel like, maybe, you should not have shared this with us and just kept it to yourself,” one Twitter user wrote. “People are dying and the rest of us are suffering as we watch the body count rise quarantined in our homes. This is tone deaf and insensitive.”

Meanwhile, one tweeted, “Wow so fun my family still hasn’t met my six month old baby but I’m glad you’re rich,” while another wrote, “I’m a school teacher who had to go to the ER two different times because I got COVID pneumonia. I’ve been in bed, on oxygen, for 20 straight days. I don’t even know if my sick leave will cover it. But go ahead and feel blessed.”

It’s just further evidence of the different COVID-19 experience for the rich opposed to the general population. While President Donald Trump is given every available helpful drug imaginable to keep his bloated carcass going to commit evil for a while longer, some of his citizens are unable to access basic healthcare to fight the virus.
As West strikes poses in secluded luxury waters, back home thousands await news a cash stimulus to help them make rent and buy food. COVID-19 has truly exposed the gap between the upper and working class. It’s one rule for them and one rule for us.
