The ‘Kraven the Hunter’ cast is slowly filling out and Ariana DeBose is the newest member to join the group of the Spider-Man villain’s movie.
After a monumental win at the SAG Awards, for her performance as Anita in West Side Story, on Sunday, February 27th, Ariana Debose is now looking towards her next major project.
Debose is also an Oscar-nominee, one who is set to join the cast of Sony Pictures’ Kraven the Hunter, a film that will take place in Sony’s burgeoning Spider-verse. The film has already cast Aaron Taylor Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff (Kraven the Hunter) himself and although it is unconfirmed, Debose will reportedly play Calypso.
J.C. Chandor will be directing the film with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing. Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk wrote the screenplay as a group.
Among the Marvel characters that Sony holds the right to, Kraven, who is one of Marvel’s deadliest and most iconic antiheroes, looks to join the fold. Sergei is one of Spider-Man’s most notable foes, who at one point even claimed the deed of killing Spider-Man himself. This incident was part of the iconic comic in which Spidey is depicted crawling from the grave in his iconic all-black symbiote suit.
Calypso, the character DeBose will be playing, is a voodoo priestess hailing of Haitian descent. In the comics, she enjoys manipulating Kraven— driving him into fits of rage and furthering his hatred of Spider-Man. She continued pushing Kraven on such matters until he was driven to the point of taking his own life.
When Calypso was desperate to increase her powers, she went to the point of sacrificing her younger sister, which served in strengthening her. With DeBose continuing to establish her prowess in acting, fans should be excited to see what she can do.
