The first look of the forthcoming Princess Diana biopic, Spencer, has arrived — and Kristen Stewart makes for a convincing Lady Di.

Spencer is directed by Pablo Larraín (Jackie, No, Ema) with a script penned by Locke screenwriter and Peaky Blinders creator Steve Knight. The film will explore a single weekend of Diana’s life, during the Christmas holiday period spent with the royal family at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. A weekend in which Diana makes the transformative decision to end her marriage with Prince Charles.

“December, 1991: The Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage has long since grown cold,” a description for the film reads. “Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different.”

Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life. It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name; Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her,” shares Kristen Stewart of the film.

Kristen Stewart will be joined by a legion of the finest actors working like Timothy Spall (All or Nothing, Mr. Turner) and Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine, Happy-Go-Lucky, The Shape of Water.)

Everything about this movie feels so right, with the creative team comrpised of Director of Photography Claire Mathon (Portrait of a Lady on Fire), Costume Designer Jacqueline Durran (Greta Gerwig’s Little Women), Make Up and Hair Designer Wakana Yoshihara (Murder On The Orient Express) and Guy Hendrix Dyas (Inception) on Production Design.

Oh, and the score? Yeah they’ve enlisted the help of Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood.

The first look of Kristen Stewart in costume has arrived and we have complete faith that she’ll make an exceptional Diana. Draped in a vintage 1988/1989 Chanel red coat, donning a veiled boater hat and a pussy-bow blouse, she looks nothing short of striking. Move over, The Crown.
