I know that we’re all lacking stamina when it comes to reading articles about surviving lockdown, these unprecedented times, the new normal, etc, etc.
I’m going to resist the urge to hammer on about it and try to TLDR to the point as smoothly as possible. One of the only things that has offered me a shred of mental stability and safety is having a regular and routined exercise regime. It’s been an invaluable mental health tool. When time doesn’t really mean anything, it’s easy to find yourself overwhelmed and upset over watching time go by and not having the mental capacity to do anything.
This is not me pushing the backwards agenda that time is precious and we need to make the most of every moment. I think that rest is important. I think that we’re all living through something so completely terrifying and isolating. We shouldn’t feel guilty about how we choose to spend our time when our entire lives have been completely uprooted.
At the risk of sounding like a preachy, deluded, Lulu Lemon-clad, Goop-is-my-bible bitch, I genuinely think that exercise has been the one source of diligence that I’ve been able to lean on that makes me feel less of a piece of shit.
If you think you might want to start exercising from home, but don’t know where to begin, may I point you in the direction of Yoga with Adrienne. Yoga is the perfect way to exercise. This all sounds a bit pony but it really is the only part of my day in which I dedicate time to checking in on the old brain-o and taking care of my body.
It’s challenging, yeah, but not in the way that makes you feel like a sweaty, pathetic, sludge monster you might find in a Spirited Away bath house. It’s just unadulterated goodness.
I would also suggest perhaps treating yourself to supple, sexy, activewear to help motivate you to stick to a regime. At first, I used to mock those that wore their little activewear numbers to brunch on a Sunday, but then I became one of them. Perhaps I’m merely an insipid product of neoliberal feminism but wearing a coordinated activewear getup makes me feel empowered.
Queensland-based brand LSKD are the undisputed kings of activewear. Without a word of cap this brand make my favourite leggings. I’ve done Lulu Lemon, Lorna Jane, Gym Shark and Under Armour and all have paled in comparison to the comfort of LSKD leggings.
All of their products are made with this ridiculously lightweight, breathable, 4-way stretch fabric that genuinely feels more comfortable than your birthday suit. They also make you look incredibly hot, and as we all know, hotness is the only virtue.
