Macaulay Culkin has a lot going on right now, having just launched a Goop-esque website and a new podcast, as well as being in the middle of shooting a film. But we don’t care about all that, do we? We just wanna discuss Home Alone conspiracy theories!

Luckily, Mac seems to enjoy this discourse, recently turning up on The Tonight Show to discuss a number of the wilder fan theories, such as the appearance of Elvis in a background scene, and the idea that Kevin McCallister grew up to become Jigsaw from Saw. (Paging: Lee from Recovery.)

He also points out a fairly major plot-hole, namely: if Kevin is so smart, why didn’t he just call the pigs, the fuzz, the cops, the heat?

Fans may counter that the phone lines in the neighbourhood were damaged during a storm, which is why Kevin’s dad is unable to connect to the house from Paris. Others may counter that argument with a smug, “Yeah, but how did he order a pizza then?”

Because the Internet is an amazing place, The Huffington Post actually asked AT&T’s Vice President for Federal Regulatory Affairs, Hank Hultquist about this back in 2015, and he answered.

“Everything is changing now because all of this phone capability is moving into the cloud, but in 1990, that was absolutely a plausible scenario.

“When you’re trying to call from Paris, now you’re relying on a whole series of connections including undersea cables, any one of which could have a problem, which would prevent you from reaching some particular telephone number.”

So that’s sorted. Check out the interview below, and his website here.
