In last night’s episode of MAFS, the rules were changed for the first time ever, allowing Josh to leave the experiment even though his partner, Melissa, wrote down ‘stay’.

To viewers, it appeared as though relationship expert John made the decision to allow Josh to leave, however, Melissa has insisted that it was she who asked if Josh could exit the experiment.

“I actually said to John, please let him leave,” Melissa told Kyle and Jackie O.

In last night’s episode, John told Josh that he and the other experts could see he was “pretty broken’.

“Considering what we’ve seen tonight and what we’ve heard, I’m going to do something that I’ve never done before because I’ve never seen a relationship like this before in the experiment. And, we’ve also been around long enough to know that there is no coming back for you in this experiment, Josh, and we’re not going to subject you any longer to this,” John said before asking if the reality star wanted to stay or leave.

“Thanks, I’d like to leave,” Josh said through tears.

While Melissa did write ‘stay’ on her slip, she had the word ‘leave’ crossed out.

“I wanted to stay. So, we actually ended up having an argument before that. And then I was writing leave. I was like, ‘I have to get out of here’. And then after speaking to production or my producer, I was like, ‘oh, well look, they’ve given me what I wanted. A nice guy. Right. Yeah. Maybe I have to keep continuing this with this,'” she explained.

Melissa added that she didn’t think the casting team had her best interests at heart when matching her up with Josh.

“I really feel like everything that I put on my list and everything that Josh put on his list, we couldn’t have been more opposite. I think this was already a train wreck that was gonna happen,” she said.
