Season nine of MAFS may have just wrapped here in the US, but it’s just getting started over in the US. The hit reality series premiered in America last week, and viewers have shared their shock about the lack of diversity on the show.

“No diversity/inclusion on MAFS Australia. I haven’t watched one season yet because of the lack of diversity. Other people due exist [sic],” one American user wrote on Instagram.

Another added “No POC? I won’t be watching…”

One commenter questioned whether there were POC in Australia. “Why is everyone blonde and white?” they wrote in their first post. To which another user responded, “Because Australia is full of them”. The original user then replied, “So you mean to tell me there’s no black people in Australia?”

And, while the lack of diversity in the Australian franchise of Married at First Sight is a massive issue, some Reddit users were more concerned that the series is “fake”.

“They hire a bunch of actors, write a bunch of idiotic storylines where everyone is constantly having affairs with other cast members, and maybe (it’s debatable) throw in a handful of normal people looking for love,” a Reddit user posted.

They added: “What I couldn’t get over when I tried watching it one season is that their “experts” are even worse than the US experts, because the AU experts lie and are in on all the fake crap going on, pretending to not know half the cast is having affairs…even though it’s all being filmed, and often happening live right in front of their eyes at those awful “dinner parties”.”

Despite the negative comments, there were some huge fans of the Aussie MAFS format in comparison to the US version.

“You’re a wet rag. Please go away with your terrible take,” a user wrote in response to the above post.

“This is probably my favorite MAFS AU season of all time. They’re editing tons out of the US episodes, so watch the AU versions if you can online.”

Another added, “I ADORE MAFS AU! It just premiered last night in the US and I couldn’t be more excited. The format is so much better. Couples get a short interview, then get married in one episode!”
