Looking to own a piece of Sydney history? Got a few million just resting easy in the bank? Then you might want to look into buying Manly’s Hotel Steyne.
For 160 years, the Hotel Steyne in Manly has served as one of the most historic pubs in all of Sydney. Located directly opposite Manly Beach, the hotel is in prime position for lovers of good vibes, good views, and good mates. Now, it’s looking for a new home.
As the Sydney Morning Herald reports, the Hotel Steyne is looking to change hands for the first time in close to a decade.
Last bought for $27 million back in 2010, the iconic watering hole is on the market for $70 million. While the price might seem steep, the fact that pubs like the Steyne are untouched by draconian lockout laws makes this something of an investor’s dream.
So what does a cool $70 million get you? Well, according to the listing on Real Commercial, the Hotel Steyne features six bars, a modern bistro, multiple outdoor spaces, and impressive rooftop vistas, while a gaming room also boasts 30 gaming machines.
However, as the SMH notes, some of the regulars aren’t too keen on the Hotel Steyne changing hands, with some worrying the new owners might change things up a bit too much.
“I used to be able to get a schooner for 20 cents. Now it’s $8,” explained Barry Fagan. “But seriously, I’ve been coming here for 40 years. It’s an icon of Manly, you hope that a new owner could respect that.”

Of course, while expressions of interest are open for another month, it’s anyone’s guess right now what is to become of the Hotel Steyne.
Here’s hoping the new owners keep the history of the location alive, while still maintaining its legacy as one of Sydney’s most iconic pubs.
