It looks like Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling – sorry, Barbie and Ken – are reuniting in an Oceans 11 prequel.
The Hollywood superstars are reuniting for the project, which is still in development and is being helmed by Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment (as per Variety).
The film will be the first Oceans film since the Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock-led Ocean’s 8 in 2o18, which received pretty mixed reviews.
Whilst the project is being kept firmly under wraps, there are are a few details that are public knowledge. This includes that the film is set in 1960s Europe, and that it’s being directed by Jay Roach, director of Austin Powers and Meet the Parents. Quite frankly, I’m sold at that alone.
But for those of you that need more convincing, LuckyChap producer Josey McNamara said at the BFI London Film Festival that the team will “do right by the franchise” and that he is “excited for people to experience it when it’s ready.”
McNamara also said he hopes this is one of many Barbie reunions, saying, “They’re wonderful together. The more projects even outside of that we can have them do would be amazing.”
In the Barbie world, cinematic wizard Martin Scorsese recently said the ‘Oppenheimer’ phenomenon was “wonderful” for cinema. The Killers of the Flower Moon filmmaker added that the release of the movies offered “hope” for the future of cinema as it caused people to start watching films in cinema’s again.

Barbie has since become the 14th highest grossing film of all time, the highest grossing move of the year, and the highest grossing film directed by a female. Not too shabby at all. Robbie and Gosling will be hoping that this Oceans film has a similar level of success.
Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment’s next film release is Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn. The film had its world premiere at Telluride Film Festival and is due to be released on November 16th.
