Cryptocurrency has taken over the world in the last couple of years but what crypto definitely didn’t need was this cringeworthy parody music video made by Mark Zuckerberg’s sister.
The internet discovered that the Facebook founder’s sis, Randi Zuckerberg, made a parody of the classic 80s hair metal anthem ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ by Twisted Sister. In Randi’s reworked version, the choral refrain is changed to ‘We’re All Gonna Make It’.
It turns out that’s a play on the acronym WAGMI, a popular slogan in Web3 communities – the slogan is supposed to engender belief and confidence in the future success of blockchain users.
You can watch Randi’s parody video – if you dare – below. It feels like something that Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute would have made in The Office to convince new employees that Dunder Mifflin is the place to be.
If you do end up enjoying it, though, you’re in luck: Randi has been really getting into the parody video game in a big way, and recently shared another parody of ‘Hello’ by Adele.
Honestly, the real joy of this is going to be seeing how Dee Snider reacts. The Twisted Sister singer recently made it clear he was happy for the Ukrainian people to use ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ but wasn’t so happy about anti-maskers using the song as a battlecry.
“People are asking me why I endorsed the use of ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ for the Ukrainian people and did not for the anti-maskers,” Snider tweeted on Monday, February 28th. He then made a distinction between the two camps of people: “Well, one use is for a righteous battle against oppression; the other is a (sic) infantile feet stomping against an inconvenience.”
What is it with everyone suddenly using the Twisted Sister anthem all of a sudden? Is hair metal set for a major comeback in 2022?
A decade ago, I sang this song on Broadway. Today I sing this song, surrounded by new friends, as a rallying cry for the women of web3. Together, we can accomplish anything. And have fun doing it! #WAGMI
PS Look for some fun cameos!
