Matt Reeves talks The Batman sequel in a recent interview about his approach for the first movie and what he hopes to do in future stories.

In Matt Reeves’ interview with Film UK he shared some news about a sequel to The Batman and more projects down the line that will be related to his movie.

“You don’t make [movie] number one as if there’s going to be number two,” says Reeves in this Twitter clip. “You have to make number one as if you are swinging for the fences and it has to be a movie that stands and lives on its own. But I really believe in what we’ve done, and I’d be excited to tell more stories and we are already telling other stories in the screening space. We’re doing stuff on HBO Max, we’re doing a Penguin show with Colin [Farrell] which is going to be super cool, and we’re doing some other stuff too, but we have started talking about another movie. But right now, we’ll just put it out in the world. I’ll try to enjoy this.”

Thoughts of a sequel bring up many questions on how it will be done and what the focus will be. Will Robert Pattinson return to fill the role of Bruce Wayne? Luckily, he’s already answered that for us.

“It was so fun doing it,” said Pattison. “I mean I’m down to do it as many times as people want to see me, really. We’ve got to get this one out first. I’ve talked to Matt about the idea of doing a trilogy, and that would be wonderful. I really, really enjoyed the process. It’s such a fun character to play. It would be lovely.”

Along with the role of Batman, the character’s menagerie of villains come into question. We may not know who will officially play the baddies in the sequel but luckily we do have a wish list of who Pattinson would like to see the caped crusader face off against in a potential sequel. The list includes some interesting characters such as Doctor Freeze and Calendar Man.

The Batman is set to release in theaters on March 4th.
