Mel B has become engaged to her boyfriend of three years, who also happens to be a lifelong family friend.
After several notorious relationships, Mel B seems to have found the real thing with Rory McPhee, who hails from Leeds, the same English city as the Spice Girl legend.
The hairdresser, who’s 11 years the singer’s junior, popped the big question last week, according to The Sun. After dating since 2018, Rory proposed to his partner at the luxury Berkshire hotel Cliveden House.
He really came to impress with a $177,000 champagne-coloured diamond ring, with several other smaller champagne diamonds surrounding it.
“Mel is so happy and this is such a big deal for her because she has been though such a lot,” a source close to the couple told the publication. “It has taken a huge amount for a man to get her to trust him and to believe in love again.”
According to the source, Rory represents “the absolute opposite” of the usual type of guy Mel B dates. “He is a really normal, down-to-earth guy, with good morals who has worked incredibly hard to build his own business and a family business. He’s not flash, or interested in the limelight,” they added. Rory’s best friend is also reportedly Mel’s cousin, Christian Cooke.
Other sources claimed that Mel B “burst into tears” straight away after Rory proposed to her, with the singer immediately accepting his proposal. “But it was incredibly emotional because after everything she has been through, it was a really big moment for her,” a source told The Sun. And luckily for Rory, a source also insisted the rest of the Spice Girls approve of the hairdresser.
