Melbourne’s COVID-19 circuit-breaker lockdown was originally due to end this week at 11.59pm on Thursday, however we have now been advised that the lockdown is set to be extended for at least another seven days.

The extended lockdown comes as a result of the state recording six new locally acquired cases, meaning that the total outbreak numbers are not at 60 cases.

51,033 test results were received on Tuesday, among six coming up as positive. At the moment, a total of 20,585 vaccination doses have been administered across the state.

As per the usual, Victorians will still only be allowed to leave home for the same five reasons: shopping for groceries, work/study, exercise, giving or receiving care and to get vaccinated.

An update to the five reasons rule comes in for Year 11 and Year 12 students who are returning to face to face learning will have their radius extended to 10 kilometres.

As reported by ABC NewsActing Premier James Merlino said, “If we let this thing run its course, it will explode. We’ve got to run this to ground because if we don’t, people will die. And if that happens, it’s our most vulnerable. It’s our parents, it’s our grandparents, it’s Victorians with underlying conditions or compromised immunity.”
