UPDATE:  COVID-19 ‘circuit-breaker’ lockdown in Melbourne has been extended by seven days.

From 6 pm this evening, several restrictions will be introduced to the Greater Melbourne area and its residents. The new restrictions arrive amid the state confirming its fifth coronavirus case overnight.

The government has introduced measures including mandatory mask-wearing indoors, and limits on private and public gatherings.

People will be restricted to 5 visitors per day to their homes, whilst public gatherings will be restricted to 30 people. These restrictions are set to stay in place across Greater Melbourne until June 4th.

Acting Premier James Merlino confirmed that yesterday’s cluster of four cases has grown to five after a positive case was recorded just after midnight last night.
