Keen for some iso entertainment that you don’t even have to leave your front garden for? Well, Meburnians and Sydney-siders can look to the sky this evening for one of this year’s brightest meteor showers.

Keen to see a concert? Wanna go to the movies? Well, since both of those events are still outside of the realm of possibility, you can tune into this nights feature – the sky – as both Melbourne and Sydney are in for a treat of a meteor shower. So, maybe you can at least wish on a falling star for these events to get kicking again?

The Eta Aquarids meteor shower, which typically moves across Australia every May, keenly offers some of the boldest and brightest meteor showers than any other meteor event. Created from the dust trail left by the infamous Halley’s Comet, it’s one of the only annual showers that we can best see from our corner of the world

Since the skies are clear, and we’ve steered clear from the rainy forecasts for the day, we’re lined up to have a grand view of the spectacle this evening. So, between 2AM and 5AM, turn your peepers to the sky, and witness the beauty that is sure to unfold.

Astronomers have noted that we could be seeing as many as 50 meteors pass through the sky per hour, and have cautioned that viewers shouldn’t get discouraged if they don’t see anything straight away, since it can take your eyes nearly 20 minutes to adjust to the dark skies.

More keen on your sleep than seeing a meteor shower? We get it. Luckily, there will still be some notable activity happening in the sky for around 24-hours following the brunt of the show, with some meteors passing through up to a week out, so hopefully you’ll still get to see a bit of the action!
