2019 ended with a playlist of Barack Obama’s faves from the previous 12 months. Now, three weeks into the new year, Michelle Obama has shared her favourite workout tunes.

Michelle is a noted health advocate. She placed emphasis on nutrition, physical activity and healthy eating during her eight year tenure as first lady. Michelle notably conceived the Let’s Move! initiative in 2010, which set out to get children active and fend off childhood obesity.

Obama posted her 2020 Workout Playlist to Twitter, writing “It’s about that time when New Year’s resolutions get a bit harder to stick to. To offer a little inspiration, I want to share my go-to #WorkoutPlaylist with you.”

The list begins with the contemporary gospel stylings of Kirk Franklin’s ‘A God Like You’. It’s dominated by mainstream hip hop, R&B and pop songs thereafter. Childish Gambino, Lizzo, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Anderson .Paak all feature. It’s no surprise to see ‘Apeshit’ by Obama’s good pals The Carters in the list too.

The list is split between body moving music that’s just as fit for the club as the gym, and a selection of cool down tracks. “These songs always seem to give me that extra boost to get through my toughest workouts,” Obama wrote on Twitter.

Barack Obama’s Songs of 2019 playlist included the Billy Ray Cyrus version of Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’, Lizzo’s ‘Juice’, Kaytranada’s ‘Go DJ’ and Young Thug’s ‘The London’. Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Hello Sunshine’, Mavis Staples’ ‘Change’ and Joe Henry’s ‘The Fact of Love’ also got the former POTUS’s approval.
