A big shoutout to all Miffy lovers, an exhibition dedicated to miffy & friends has landed in Melbourne.
Described as, “A deceptively unassuming figure, Miffy’s outward simplicity belies a legacy grounded in the 20th century avant-garde–abstractionism, colour theory and De Stjil–and owes a debt of influence to the likes of Matisse, Léger and Mondrian. Miffy embodies a universal language of minimalism, expressing a myriad of emotions and subtle nuances that can be understood across generations and cultural milieus.”
The miffy & friends exhibition, located at Bunjil Place is set to bring together original drawings and illustrations by Dick Bruna, along with early book covers and posters, all the way through to the inception of Miffy.
By highlighting Bruna’s artistic philosophy, the exhibition aims to celebrate the way it has allowed room for the imagination, as well as revealing Miffy’s influence on the body of works by seven contemporary Australian artists. It also brings out concepts such as colour, line and form to the forefront – which Bruna has been intimately involved with over the course of his life and career.
Alongside the exhibition itself, there has also been a curated lineup of events scheduled in for the exhibit’s duration. Head over to the website for the full rundown and see below for our upcoming event highlights. The exhibition is open from now until Sunday 13th June.
