Renegade artist Matthew Gillett is gearing up to deliver his powerful new work My Art Kills Monsters, pulling no punches when it comes to delving in transparently and openly about mental illness.

Over 45 artworks will descend on theaMBUSH Project Space as part of Gillett‘s new and bold workMy Art Kills Monsters. For Gillett, process is as integral to the engagement with the art as the final product itself. Next to every painting will be an AV screen with headphones with a time lapse of the whole production process accompanied by some banger tunes donated by none other than Sticky Fingers.

No stranger to upheavels, Gillett had his life set as the Annandale Hotel’s manager within its halycon live music days when he suffered a near-fatal head injury breaking up a brawl. His long recovery and spiral into depression saw him throw himself into documenting that process.

In this the premiere art event that is the product of his time clawing his way back and killing his monsters, we see Gillett be brutally honest, vulnerable and real with a struggle that is true for thousands of Australians.

My Art Kills Monsters commences Thursday June 23 until Sunday June 26 ataMBUSH Project Space.
