2016 marks is the100th anniversary of the Easter Rising in Ireland. To commemorate this, the 50th National Folk Festival has announced a program to remember the important historical event through music, poetry, dance and song.

The 1916Easter Rising is remembered by many as the beginning of a revolutionary cultural and language movement which forged Ireland towards independence and self-determination.

Teeming up withthe Irish Embassy and supported by theGovernment of Ireland’s international program to commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising, the National Folk Festival is putting on several special events. Highlights include anillustrated historical presentation at the Festival’s Trocadero venue, concerts includingSiobhan Owen,Coolfinn Mac with Sydney Irish Ceili Dancers,An Afternoon of Cork & Kerry Sets, Ciaran O’Grady, Aifric Boylan and Graeme Newell, and a Gala Easter Rising Concert headlined byColum Sands and The Rambling Boys.

The 2016 National Folk Festival takes place at Exhibiton Park, Canberra from Thursday March 24 – Monday March 28.
