Award-winning and emerging indigenous artists will take the stage in April.

The First Peoples’ Program has been announced by the National Folk Festival, joining a massive lineup for 2017.

Leading the pack will be Genise and Nicholas Williams, Aranda people from the Northern Territory. Hailing from Aboriginal country music royalty, their music tells the story of their hometown ofHermannsburg. The siblings will also be leading the festival choir with Rachel Hore.

The Mission Sings Project, curated by Jessie Lloyd, will revive a near-forgotten collection of indigenous Australian contemporary songs that were performed around missions and campfires. Meanwhile, 14-year-old South Australian Tilly Thomas, who will release her first EP this year, is also on the program, along with David Spry, who has taken his roots and blues sounds onstage with the likes of Michael Franti and Tex Perkins.

As part of the Talks Program, Dr. Jared Thomas will speak on the ideas of culture and belonging.

Also on the program are Kutcha Edwards, Dubmarine and indigenous dance groupWiradjuri Echoes.

The National Folk Festival 2017will take place on Easter weekend, Thursday April 13 until Monday April 17, at Exhibition Park in Canberra.
