Following a heap of backlash for adding in unskippable ads without informing players, NBA 2K21 has apologised yet stopped short of revealing what they’ll do to fix the situation.

It goes without saying that gamers are a loud and vocal bunch of people who aren’t shy at voicing their displeasure whenever something doesn’t go their way or ruins their gaming experience.

Case in point: NBA 2K21 stealthily added in unskippable ads and quickly pissed off a heap of people.

Not only is this a pretty unsubtle attempt from the game’s publisher to squeeze every possible dollar from people who already paid full price for the game (and then some in microtransactions and when the game comes out on the PS5 and Xbox Series X), the unskippable ads make for an unpleasant gaming experience.

So after the inevitable wave of backlash from gamers, NBA 2K21 issued out an apology statement on Twitter.

“As many are aware, in recent years ads have been intergrated into 2KTV segments,” read NBA 2K21‘s statement on Twitter. “Yesterday’s 2KTV ad placement impacted our players’ experience in a way we didn’t intend, as these ads are not meant to run as part of the pre-game introduction.”

“These will be fixed in future episodes. Thanks for your continued feedback.”

Now is nice that they apologised and all (even though they clearly knew what they’re doing), but the details are a bit bare when it comes to when these unskippable ads will be “fixed” and what this fix will look like.

Will NBA 2K21 remove these unskippable ads altogether or keep them but in a less annoying format? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

You’d think that after years of going through the exact same thing that the folks behind NBA 2K21 would know better not to do it again. But hey, I guess money is the only thing that really matters at the end of the day, gamer experience be damned.
