This afternoon’s Netball All-Stars Game has raised thousands of dollars for bushfire affected communities across Australia. The match took place at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena. Australian national team, The Diamonds played against a team of international netballers, The Suncorp Super Netball All-Stars.

Though the exact amount raised hasn’t been finalised, the tally is expected to be tens of thousands of dollars strong. In online donations alone, the cause has raised over $57,000, with that number continuing to grow.

The match ended in a 66-53 victory to The Diamonds.

Ahead of this afternoon’s game, outgoing Australian Diamonds head coach, Lisa Alexander said that she was “honoured to be part of this match.”

“(I’m) so proud of our elite netball program and netball in Australia in being able to pull this brilliant event together in such a short timeframe to support our communities who have been affected by these devastating fires,” Alexander said.

Proceeds raised will be donated to a Natural Disaster Relief Fund set up by The Confident Girls Foundation. In a statement, Netball Australia wrote that donations will help with “supporting netball-specific bushfire relief and recovery projects.”
