Georgia is one of six states that have passed these six-week abortion bans, whilst none of them are currently in effect, it is expected that some of them will be put into place during America’s summer.
Naturally, the despicable ban has roused a strong retaliation from cultural figureheads and companies. Multiple productions, including Amazon Studios produced TV series The Power, has boycotted the state in protest. Now Netflix and Disney have joined the ranks.
Yesterday, Netflix revealed that they intend on working alongside the ACLU to fight the ban in court.
“We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law,” Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos commented. “It’s why we will work with the ACLU and others to fight it in court. Given the legislation has not yet been implemented, we’ll continue to film there — while also supporting partners and artists who choose not to. Should it ever come into effect, we’d rethink our entire investment in Georgia.”
“I rather doubt we will,” Iger explained when asked about whether Disney would continue to film in Georgia. “I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully.”
“I don’t see how it’s practical for us to continue to shoot there,” he added.
Disney has filmed multiple gargantuan productions in Georgia in recent years, including blockbusters Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame.
