Netflix has effectively ignored the social commentary of its own show, Squid Game, and wants to copy its game format into a reality TV show.

A former Netflix employee who was let go during the large wave of layoffs back in April of 2022 is now reacting to Netflix’s order of a Squid Game reality show in which the cash prize is $4.56M. The layers comprised of the lack of respect for people’s lives have been slowly stacked up by Netflix over the past year and it seems to be coming back to bite them as subscriber numbers drop.

With their reveal of this new Squid Game reality show, Netflix is further disenfranchising the workers they laid off in April, many of whom were POC. Reina Sultan was among those workers, and now she has taken to Twitter to comment on the situation.

“Just got laid off from Netflix/Tudum, effective today. Email me with opportunities at [email protected] so I can pay my rent and help my parents survive! A bunch of my incredible colleagues got laid off, too. You’d be incredibly lucky to work with any of them.”

“This is like if someone saw jicksaw and wanted to make the traps for people, just that instead of a poor cancer patient making the deadly trap is rich white people so it’s okay”

“Sci-Fi Author: In my book I invented the Torment Nexus as a cautionary tale

Tech Company: At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from classic sci-fi novel Don’t Create The Torment Nexus”

“Just so we’re clear on how much money this would cost: largest cash prize since I think they said Fear Factor, and in addition… that’s 456 people you’re in charge of. Take into account the cost of sets and if this involves any physical challenge that can result in injury”

“Also let it be known that America has it set up so you don’t pay contestants on a gameshow–if you are competing for money you don’t have to get paid. It’s 456 more people whose labor is being exploited because it’s a competition style show–A LOT more than the usual in 1 season”

“Is this why they laid off everyone?”
