Ubisoft are making a new game set in a galaxy far far way as the studio has announced that its working on a new Star Wars title.
Lucasfilm Games are really going nuts with the game announcements aren’t they?
After it was announced that it will be teaming up with Bethesda to make a new Indiana Jones game, it’s now been announced that Lucasfilm Games and Ubisoft are teaming up to make a brand new Star Wars game.
This project has been described as a story-driven, open world game set in the Star Wars universe and will be “an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before” according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot as per Wired.
Beyond that there aren’t many other story or gameplay details, but an interesting tidbit of note is the studio Ubisoft has tasked to develop this new game.
Ubisoft Massive, developers of The Division and The Division 2, will be working on this project, which is some good signs early on as that studio knows how to make large open world games.
The other thing that’s interesting about this Star Wars/Ubisoft collaboration is where EA fits into all this.

EA signed a 10-year exclusive deal to publish Star Wars games with Disney back in 2013 (as per IGN), which brings up the question of how Ubisoft fits into all this.
Going off Wired‘s report in which Disney senior VP of Global Games and Interactive Experiences Sean Shoptaw says EA will “continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward,” it seems like either the EA deal has changed or Ubisoft’s game won’t see the light of day until 2023 when EA’s 10-year deal expires.
Either way, the bottom line is that we’re getting an open world Star Wars game from Ubisoft, who definitely know how to make open world games. That in itself is exciting news.
