When this pandemic is all over, there will obviously be many triggers that will remind us of the nightmares of COVID-19 life.
Whether it’s QR codes, toilet rolls or hand sanitiser, at this point, memes are probably the only positive thing to come out of all of this.
But now thanks to conceptual artist, Nik Bentel, aka, the creator of The Pasta Bag, memes aren’t the only thing giving us a hit of dopamine.
In an interview with Hypebeast, Bentel spoke about his inspiration for the bag, that he had the lightbulb moment when he was cooking his “100th bowl of penne pasta.”
With the pandemic rendering meal eating predominantly an at-home activity, like many of us, Bentel drowned his lockdown blues in the comfort of a blue box of Barilla pasta.
On the process of bringing the bag to life, Bentel said, “I started with talking to bag and leather experts who knew what materials and manufacturing processes I should use. From there, I went to a number of bag makers to collect samples.”
While the bag isn’t officially affiliated with the pasta brand, it’s pretty hard to believe considering the striking resemblance.
Putting his creative juices to work, Bentel translated all of the features and elements of the Barilla pasta box, presenting to us a bag that could easily be mistaken for a legit box of the household brand pasta – any day of the week.
It features all of the trappings of the actual box, including the pasta type, nutrition facts and a little front window where you would usually see the pasta inside.
A year later, the bag has arrived, with each piece priced at $199 USD.
The release is super limited, with only 100 bags being available purchase at 10am EDT (which for us Aussies is 12am AEST tonight). You can check out the official website here.
