There’s no polite way of putting this: the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie is one of the worst things to have ever been committed to film.
The history of movies based on video games is a long and horrendous one, with Mortal Kombat, Doom, Dead Or Alive, Street Fighter and numerous others definitively proving that stretching a game based on a simple concept into a two-hour plot-filled adventure is simply an unfeasible idea.
But Super Mario Bros. is the very worst.
25 years later, Nintendo are hoping to make up for this blemish on their otherwise impressive run by announcing another Mario movie, which will be animated by the same geniuses behind Minions and Despicable Me. Okay, we’re listening.
It’s way too early for release dates yet, but here’s hoping your princess is in the correct castle this time… or something.
