Pearl Jam may have very well been at the top of the queue to play at the NRL Grand Final next month, but it’s Grammy Award-winning artist Macklemore who will headline this year’s pre-game show.

The set at ANZ Stadium on October 1 will be Macklemore’s only performance during his promo visit to Australia in support of his upcoming album, Gemini (out September 22).

And if he doesn’t perform ‘Downtown’, we’ll lead the pitchfork army.

Macklemore said:

“I couldn’t be more honoured and excited to perform at the NRL Grand Final. It’ll be one of the largest crowds I’ve performed for thus far and my only show in Australia this year. I’m humbled to have the opportunity to reach such a large, enthusiastic NRL audience.”

NRL Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Abdo said the booking of Macklemore follows a request by a fan focus group.

“He is one of the world’s leading artists at the moment and popular with Australians and most importantly our fans,” said Abdo. “It is a real coup for him to be performing exclusively for us during his only show in Australia on the back of the release of his new album.”

Tickets for the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final are available through Ticketek and nrl.com/tickets.
