If you’ve watched TV anytime at all during the last 15 years, there’s a pretty strong chance that you would have come across The Office, whether it be the original UK version, or the much more popular US version. Well, there’s good news in the pipeline for legions of the US version of the series, with reports coming through that there are plans to revive the series, almost five years after its last episode aired.

Back in 2001, Ricky Gervais’ quirky mockumentary sitcom The Office first aired. Twelve episodes and two specials later, it was announced that the program was set to return, this time adapted for an American audience. While many may have had doubts about the new series, any reservations fans may have had were quickly put to rest as the show quickly became one of the most popular programs on NBC.

Since The Office wrapped up in 2013, fans have been voraciously lobbying for more episodes, with series star Steve Carell even teasing fans earlier this year when it was announced that Will & Grace was making a comeback.

Well, now it seems as though there might have been truth to his joke, because NBC have today announced the series is set to return to the airwaves next year.

As TV Line reports, it seems as though NBC executives saw the light with the Will & Grace revival, announcing that The Office is set to return in the 2018/19 TV season.

Sadly, Steve Carell will not be returning to the series, but there’s currently a search underway for just who will take the role of Dunder Mifflin’s boss.

Earlier this year, NBC President Bob Greenblatt  offered some sad news to fans who had hoped for a revival series. “We often talk about The Office,” the exec admitted to Deadline.

“I’ve talked to Greg [Daniels, Executive Producer] four times over the past few years. It’s always, ‘Maybe someday, but not now’. There is certainly an open invitation, but we don’t have anything happening right now. If he wants to do it, I would do it.”

NBC are yet to comment on the revival, so stay tuned for further news.
