My lords and ladies, I give to you the exhibition Queen and Country. Well technically, Paul Ryan is giving it to you. On display at the Olsen Irwin.

Queen and Country is a two part exhibition of new oil paintings by Paul Ryan. It is one part Queen Elizabeth and one part Northern Illawarra landscape but two parts gorgeous – don’t judge the math.

The exhibition includes five portraits of Queen Elizabeth, now in her 90s and still looking remarkably strong. The Queen’s striking outfits and matching hats, contrasted against her gloves and bag, give off a strange appearance and are mesmerizing to look at.

The landscape works are a continuatuion of a series Ryan has been painting for thirty years. “I live In Thirroul in the northern Illawarra,” he says. “It is nestled between the escarpment and the sea. I am out on the ocean daily, surfing and watching the landscape as it changes in different weather conditions.” Can’t beat a press blurb like that, really.

The Queen and Country exhibition is on display at Olsen Irwin Gallery from August 24 – September 11. For more info click here.
