In a recent interview, Patrick Stewart slipped up when talking about his appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

After Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘s trailer debuted during the Superbowl, many fans with sharp eyes noticed a voice, that was paired with a familiar figure, that sounded very similar to Patrick Stewart’s Professor X character. In the official trailer’s Youtube video, the voice is titled as “mysterious voice” and holds Patrick Stewart’s signature warmness when saying the line, “We should tell him the truth.”

The character is presumably talking about a revelation in regards to the multiverse that Strange is not yet privy to, marking what might end up being a mind-blowing twist when we all get to see it for ourselves.

“I actually didn’t recognize my own voice … It sounded different … whether I had a cold or something, I don’t know”

“I was astonished … All they saw was the back of my shoulder and earlobe”

With all of the speculation among fans, it comes as no surprise that Patrick Stewart thought he was in the clear to talk about the figure from the trailer as himself. He seems to have thought the cat was already out of the bag at that point.

Initially, the interviewer asked Stewart a “what if” question to open up the dialogue on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Stewart answered cleverly, saying that if Professor X ever met Doctor Strange he would be very cautious. His initial trepidation seems strange in hindsight seeing as how the actor follows by blatantly talking about how it was “my voice” and “my shoulder” in the trailer.

Whether this is an admission to Professor X being in the trailer or a misspoken point, we don’t know.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to release in theaters on May 6th, 2020.
