The Australian edition of international gaming event, PAX, has been cancelled for 2020.

The three-day event had been set to take place at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from October 9th-11th. However, in a statement released yesterday, the organisers of the event revealed that it will no longer go ahead.

“It is with a heavy heart that today we announce the postponement of PAX Australia 2020, due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 in Australia and globally,” the statement reads.

The event will return in 2021, however, the organisers confirmed.

“We have been working hard with our partners and exhibitors to explore all viable options but with our desire to bring you the best PAX Aus ever, the next edition of PAX Aus will now take place in 2021.”

The event’s organisers also teased that while the event will not proceed as normal in 2020, fans can look forward to other “exciting” developments in the near future.

“We are finding new and exciting ways to connect you and the PAX community with your favourite content and creators,” PAX’s statement continued.

“Stay tuned to our social media channels in the coming days as we start to announce more information.”

The event’s statement closed with a heartfelt expression of gratitude from the organisers.

“We want to thank you all for your ongoing support and understanding during this challenging time. While we can’t be physically together this year, we urge you to stay in touch with us, your community and each other.”

The cancellation means that 2020 will be the first year without PAX Australia since the event debuted in 2013. The first PAX event worldwide took place in Washington in 2004.

The 2019 Australian edition featured gaming exhibits, live performances, tournaments, panels, pin trading and more.
