For those who think Reddit is a sordid cesspit of trolls who ravenously wait under their bridges to attack even the slightest misstep… you’re probably right most of the time.

However, as has been proven by a year-old thread where users offered up their opinions on Valentine’s Day, Reddit is also full of #wholesomecontent and proof that true love does in fact, exist.

In 2016, Fortune publishes a Valentine’s Day by the numbers report, where it noted people in the US alone collectively spend $19.7 billion on V Day, according to the National Retail Federation.

The average person spends over $512 showing their love for a significant other, while the 25-34 age demo have the biggest buy-in, with 58% taking part.

Interestingly, supporting a comment from one Redditor in this thread, Tinder sees a spike in usage on Val Day. The dating app expects to see a 20% increase in use as singles make last-minute attempts to nab a Valentine.

To show you how Reddit actually sits on both sides of the heartsore spectrum, we’ve collated a few of our favourite comments, which range from, “I hope my next GF hates it as much as I do” to “my dad has been getting me a card since I was a little girl”, to (our personal favourite) “I love Valentines day. My GF and I go to a sex shop and buy a shitload of new outfits and toys … then we get pizza”.
