In case you missed it, The Pokémon Company announced its new Gen 9 Pokémon games and gave us a taste of the starters and the titles.

The Pokémon Company finished off last night’s Pokémon Presents by announcing their new Gen 9 games Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, which will launch worldwide with a release in late 2022.

A new feature of this game is that like Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it will be more of an open-world game, letting towns and wilderness blend in while you can see the Pokémon roaming around freely, just like its predecessor.

The company also revealed its new starter Pokémon.

Just like in all other main Pokémon games, you will choose from fire-, water- or grass-type Pokémon. Trainers will be able to choose from the grass-type kitten Spirigatito, the fire-type croc Fuecoco, or the water-type duckling Quaxly.

From the looks of the announcement trailer, it looks like trainers may be catching Pokémon by aiming and throwing, as they do in Legends: Arceus, though this hasn’t been confirmed.

The Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games, the newest chapters in the Pokémon series, are coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. With these new titles, the Pokémon series takes a new evolutionary step, allowing you to explore freely in a richly expressed open world.

Various towns blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders. You’ll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streets—all over! You’ll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them—now in an open-world game that players of any age can enjoy.

The three Pokémon from which you’ll be able to choose your first partner are Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. How will you meet these three, and what sorts of Pokémon are they?

As one of the main characters, you’ll set off on your adventure. Your outfit will vary depending on whether you play Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet. Who knows what kind of story awaits you?

It looks like the region in Gen 9 will be taking inspiration from Spanish architecture and even names for the Pokémon, which is exciting.

Twitter has done as Twitter does and has already made some adorable fan art of these new starters.

You can already preorder the new games from EB Games or JB Hi-Fi.

Will you be getting the new Pokémon Gen 9 games?
