A leak on Nintendo UK’s official store has given us hope that the Pokémon Mini is getting ready to make a triumphant return.
It’s a bloody great time to be a Pokémon fan. With the series currently enjoying it’s 25th anniversary, we’ve been treated to some stellar announcements.
There are the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes as well as the incredible looking open-world title for Nintendo Switch.
But nothing will tug on your nostalgic heartstrings like a return of the adorably tiny Pokémon Mini. That’s the current rumour doing the rounds after GamesRadar+ caught wind (via Nintendo Life) of an accidental store listing.
Keen eyes over the last 24 hours noticed that Nintendo UK’s official website added ‘Pokemon Mini’ to a list of search filters. You can find it in the “Originally For” section, alongside systems like the GameCube. It’s admittedly not a whole lot to go on, but is an incredibly strange addition if you ask us.
Watch the original Japanese trailer for the Pokémon Mini below:
Often lost by the annals of time, the Pokémon Mini was an itsy-bitsy device that allowed you to play a variety of Pokémon-themed mini-games. It was Nintendo’s answer to the humble Tamagotchi, which by the early 2000s had become the hottest toy on the planet.
But while the Mini was similar in size to the Tamagotchi, it allowed for more variety via tiny cartridges. 10 of these cartridges were released in Japan while the rest of the world only got five.

Unfortunately the device never really took off and quickly fell off store shelves. Nowadays, it’ll set you back a hefty 150 big ones to nab one off eBay, which is a little bit nuts. So fingers crossed there is some truth to the speculation.
Both Tamagotchi and Digimon have made a grand return, so we’re happy to make a bit of extra pocket space for the Mini. It would also make perfect sense given Pokémon’s continued birthday bash. Nintendo, are you listening?
