The TikTok Ratatouille extravaganza is now being turned into an actual Broadway musical just a few months after its glorious birth.

TikTok users are a crafty and brutal bunch. They allegedly tanked a Donald Trump rally earlier this year by buying up all the tickets. Closer to home, they discovered and then mocked the cheesy indie-pop song by Brisbane’s Sheppard.

Then last month, one of Pixar’s finest, Ratatouille, was ingeniously transformed into a collaborative musical on the social media platform. Started by Em Jaccs who shared an adoring ode to the loveable rat Remy, other users soon joined in the fun, contributing their own songs and snippets.

Now, as per The Verge, Broadway has already got its hands on it. Seaview Productions have announced Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical, a special livestream event.

“At the height of the pandemic, while Broadway remains shuttered, a phenomenon has emerged from the hearts and minds of millions of TikTokers,” said organisers. “Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical uniquely lets Gen Z know that Broadway is watching and they are seen: as creators, as fans, and as future audiences.

This event provides a once in a lifetime opportunity to harness this extraordinary outpouring of creativity and galvanise the energy behind this viral moment to create an unexpected, unprecedented, landmark response.”

Considering that there have been musicals devoted to the ogre Shrek and even the bloody X Factor, it’s certainly not the weirdest show to make it to the bright lights of theatre.

Tickets for the livestream musical can be got for just $5, an excellent price. Catch the grand premiere on New Year’s Day at 7PM EST/1AM AEDT.

It will then be available to purchase from the company’s On Demand offering for a further 72 hours after the ending of the premiere.

The OG TikTok creator Jaccs tweeted about the news, giving us all hope that her wonderful Ratatouille ballad will make it to the stage. It’s certainly deserved.
