Fans of Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther are now calling for a recast and have made a petition to change Disney’s mind.

Recast T’Challa is currently trending on Twitter as many Black Panther fans have expressed their desire to bring T’Challa back into the MCU. One fan details how they would want to see Chadwick Boseman replaced in a way that sees his character come to a conclusion within the MCU, permanently killing T’Challa, before having a new Black Panther step up to the mantle.

The person who started the petition took to Twitter to release “the official anthem for the #RecastTChalla movement.”

On top of the outcry for a recast, a petition for the movement has garnered nearly 60,000 signatures from Marvel fans. Petition organizer, E-Man’s Movie Reviews, included a summary of their intentions with starting the petition and what they thought would be the best place for the character to go, “In August of 2020, the world mourned the death of Chadwick Boseman. To many, he was known for his on-screen role of Black Panther in the Marvel Universe. While his character of T’Challa was adored by fans, there have been rumors that Marvel will kill off his character in the new movie and for good.

“By not recasting, it could stifle the opportunity for one of the most popular, leading Black superheroes to add on to their legacy. The #1 way to kill a legend, is to stop telling their story.

#RecastTChalla is NOT calling for an immediate recast.

#RecastTChalla is NOT preventing anyone else from taking up the mantle of Black Panther.

#RecastTChalla is asking Marvel Studios NOT to use the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman as a plot device in their fictional storytelling.

#RecastTChalla is asking for the portrayal of T’Challa to be allowed to continue in the MCU.”

An important piece of information amidst all of this is that Chadwick’s brother, Derrick, has voiced his support for recasting Chadwick while also honoring his legacy and is confident that his brother would have wanted the same. Currently,  Black Panther 2 is set to release November 11th, 2022.
