As far as shocking and scandalous reality TV goes, season nine of MAFS had it all. From an OnlyFans scandal to an affair and even an ongoing legal battle, fans of the show are already eagerly awaiting the next season of the series.

And, although the 2022 season of Married at First Sight only finished last month, Richard Wilkins has casually implied that Aussie viewers can expect an upcoming celebrity spin-off of the show.

During an appearance on the Fitzy & Wippa radio show this morning, Wilkins told the hosts that he’d been offered a huge sum to appear on the show.

Wilkins appeared on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! last year, and host Wippa asked him if he was gearing up to appear on any other reality shows.

“What’s the next show? Is there another music show you can possibly do or what’s in the back of your mind,” he asked the entertainment journalist.

“We’re working on a couple of ideas. Funny, you should mention that when I need that when I need the publicity I’ll give you a call, but yeah, we’ve got a couple of ideas,” Wilkins replied. “[A producer] once said to me, I’ll give you – I won’t mention the amount of money but a lot of zeros – if you do Celebrity Married at First Sight.”

Wilkins’s mention of a celebrity version of the rating juggernaut actually isn’t the first. Earlier this month, New Idea reported that the shows production company, Endemol Shine, is currently in talks to launch a celebrity MAFS.

“If we want the show to keep going, we need to be bold and change things up,” a producer from Endemol allegedly told New Idea.

They added: “A celebrity edition is exactly what MAFS needs – it’s a tried and tested format,” says the source.

The source disclosed that Richard Reid, Yvie Jones, Ash Williams, Tully Smyth, Harry T and Paulini Curuenavuli were all under consideration for the series.

The concept was also mentioned by NW last year when the publication reported that some texts from expert John Aiken to an anonymous celebrity were leaked.

“We are trying to figure out if we want celebrity marrying a celebrity for the season or celebrities paired up with strangers on the outside,” John reportedly wrote in the texts.

“We will have a video call tomorrow morning to discuss agreements further and I’ll let you know the other celebrity names who are currently on board.”
