Apparently Sony paid “a lot of money” to Rick and Morty to plug the PS5 so they decided to record a quick little ad for the console.

So the PS5 is out now and for some reason Sony thought folks may not be interested in their new baby enough so they decided to get none other than Rick and Morty to help drum up hype for their new chonk of a console.

And the end result of that is a glorious 30-second video ad where Rick does his usual Rick thing of only caring about the money and Morty trying his best to do whatever is asked of him (because he’s a Morty).

Now this is unashamedly an ad for the PS5 paid for by Sony and the Rick And Morty team lean right into that by having Rick count out a stack of money and telling Morty to “talk about the thing because they paid us a lot.”

After Morty introduces the PS5 and says that it is “super fast, like, way less of those long loading screens,” Rick takes the piss out of the whole thing by commenting “yeah, yeah, they really wanted you to mention about the speed, it’s really important to them.”

Rick then helps Morty segue seamlessly into talking about the console’s new controller, the DualSense, by saying “why don’t you tell them about the thing with the buttons,” and Morty dutifully delivers with a short description of why it is so great.

Just to really hammer home that this is a Rick And Morty thing, Rick tells Morty to not block the console because “they wanted that in the shot” only for Morty to admit that the ad is “kinda boring.” Of course, Rick finishes the ad in his usual expletive-filled way by telling the camera to “go play PS5” because, well, they got paid a lot to say that.

All this is great and all but it’s sort of a moot point for us Aussies because interest for the PS5 has been so ridiculous that getting this new console is nigh impossible and gamers will have to either wait until 2021 or shell out thousands for one on eBay.
