Ricki Lee and Amy Shark have both been beaming into Australia’s living rooms in recent weeks as they are both working on the reboot of Australia Idol. However, their relationship goes back much further – the two went to school together on the Gold Coast.

In a recent interview on Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa, Australian Idol host Ricki Lee revealed that she and Amy Shark used to blow off school and go to Maccas together.

“I mean we’ve [Amy and I] been friends all through high school, we’ve been friends since school we went to primary school together.”

Ricki told Wippa that Amy was a year younger than her in school but they regularly skipped out on school to go down to the local shopping centre. The singer added that she and the Australia Idol are still up to their mischievous ways.

“We still like wag school together and go down to Maccas down in like you know down… 10 minutes into school,” she said.

When asked by the host why she hasn’t done a song with Amy, Ricki said her friend’s original style wasn’t in line with her own.

“I think we have very different styles. I mean she has over the years. And this is before she was Amy Shark. She was like hustling hard, writing songs and in studio and doing gigs like that girl deserves all the success in the world and everything that she’s got because she worked her ass off and she hustled but she sent me songs over the years and they just but they weren’t me. Now I’m like Amy send me a song,” she said.

Back in June 2021, Ricki Lee posted a series of photos of her and Amy together throughout the years, and congratulated her on her arena concert.

She captioned the photo, “We’ve been friends since primary school…I was always the showgirl & she was always the rockstar…and last night I got to watch her play in an arena!!! 🙌🏼 I felt like a proud parent…I cried my eyes out when she walked out on stage and all through her first song. I know how hard she has worked & no matter how tough things got she never gave up! 👊🏼 I’m so proud of you Aimz…being in that crowd last night hearing everyone singing along to your songs & cheering for you was amazing! You put on a hell of a show girl ❤️❤️❤️ @amyshark 💥💥💥
