One of the highlights of the 2022 Sydney Film Festival is set to bring all the thrilling chaos and energy of festival season to the big screen in August.

Directed by AACTA Award-winning director Macario De Souza (Bra Boys, Fighting Fear), 6 Festivals hits cinemas along the East Coast on August 11th.

The film follows three young music fans, Maxie, Summer and James, who throw themselves into the world of Australian festivals in order to escape reality.

De Souza puts viewers right into the middle of the mud and the music and the friendships, with much of the footage shot at actual Aussie festivals throughout 2020 and 2021.

The soundtrack couldn’t be better either, featuring such stellar names as Peking Duk, Bliss n Eso, Ruby Fields, G Flip, and Dune Rats; you really couldn’t have a film about music festivals and have a bad soundtrack.

De Souza was inspired to make the film after experiencing firsthand what it’s like to be a touring musician. “Music festivals are a rite of passage for young Australians,” he says. “Everything about that world is exciting to me.

“The pre-festival anticipation, the road trip, the surf along the way, the chance of love, lifetime memories with mates, your favourite bands live, the adrenaline of thousands of punters screaming, the after parties, the come down/hangover, the dreaded drive home and the excitement for the next festival! It’s a place where you can momentarily escape your normal world and lose yourself collectively with your crew.”
