Some bloke has incurred the wrath of Russell Crowe after tweeting how he couldn’t sit through the actor’s film Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World.

Look, like in lockdown isn’t easy. We’ve all had to do in in Australia and rather than whinge about it (like some tennis pros), the best way to deal with it is to find ways to pass the time.

Some bloke named Ian McNabb (as per his Twitter) has decided to spend his iso by binging on movies and after attempting but failing to watch Peter Weir’s Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World, he decided to tweet about it while tagging in Russell Crowe.

“Lots of folk complaining about lack of sleep during the Pandemic. May I recommend Master And Commander starring the usually captivating, attention-grabbing Russell Crowe,” wrote McNabb. “I’ve never made it past the ten minute mark. You’re welcome. And thanks Russell.”

There’s no right or wrong answers when it comes to opinions of movies and McNabb is well within his right to say that he didn’t like Master And Commander.

Unfortunately, McNabb made the mistake of tagging in his tweet the famously outspoken Russell Crowe, who decided to roast the Twitter user for dissing the movie.

“That’s the problem with kids these days. No focus,” wrote Crowe in his reply to McNabb’s shady tweet. “Peter Weirs film is brilliant. An exacting, detail oriented, epic tale of fidelity to Empire & service, regardless of the cost.”

“Incredible cinematography by Russell Boyd & a majestic soundtrack. Definitely an adults movie.”

Typos aside, that’s a pretty staunch defence of the film from Crowe and it was made all the better when McNabb, who Crowe implied was an unfocused kid, revealed that he is in fact “four years older than Russell.”

What followed was an amusing Twitter discussion that involved a lot of laughter at this unexpected exchange, as well as a lot of praise for Master And Commander, which was critically acclaimed when it was released.

Given the strange Twitter happenings that’s happened already in 2021, like Bean Dad and Trump getting hit by the ban hammer, this little Master And Commander exchanged by a random bloke and Russell Crowe was exactly the sort of levity we needed right now.
