Sam Worthington is notoriously private about his relationship with his wife Lara (nee Bingle) and their three sons, Rocket, Racer and River.
This is exactly why it was such a surprise when the Avatar: Way of the Water star opened up about how he and Lara make their long-distance relationship work.
During an appearance on Nova 100’s Ben, Liam & Belle, Worthington offered advice for Belle who has recently started doing long-distance with her partner.
“It’s very difficult. When you’re doing my job, you’re away a lot from your family and I’m away from Lara. The way we do it, we have a two-week rule, and I fly back no matter what or where I am,” he explained.
Worthington added, “But we also FaceTime a lot, all the time, like four or five times a day just for the simple fact of then you feel like you’re involved in each other’s life. She’s sick of me at the moment, I’ve facetimed her three times already.”
Host Liam asked Worthington if he’d request time off from Avatar 2 so that he could stick by their rule and see his wife every two weeks.
“It’s not that, I just fly in and fly out. I was on a job which was like an eight-hour trip away and I would get on the plane, fly the eight hours spend a couple of hours with her and then fly back. Yeah, just because you have to keep it alive, connected and that’s then the FaceTime helps because you’re just seeing what each other does in that way.”
