Hot Wheels has teamed up with Nintendo for a Mario Kart Rainbow Road track set, and it’s already causing utter chaos.
Calling all kids and kids-at-heart. Remember Rainbow Road? You know, that infamous Mario Kart 64 track that elicited groans any time your shitty friend selected it when nobody was looking?
Well now it appears that Hot Wheels has teamed up with Nintendo to create a Mario Kart Rainbow Road track set.
News of the new toy popped up around Mar10 day (March 10) when an Amazon listing unexpectedly went live only to vanish soon after. A few days later, a proper pre-order listing appeared (as spotted by Game Informer), and quickly sold out.
Naturally, resellers and scalpers have jumped on the chaos because they’re just the absolute worst. Although the playset has a price tag of US$119.99, it’s currently being marked up to around $320 on eBay and $400 on Amazon, which is straight up outrageous.
We’re having serious flashbacks to the PS5.

The track appears to feature both Mario and King Boo Karts to play around with and the course itself is customisable. It can be set in either a straight line or a few twists and turns.

From the looks of it though, the never-ending loop that still haunts our dreams is not possible. For shame.
It’s worth pointing out that as of yet the track has not been announced for Australia. That means an international purchase is the only option for hardcore Ninty fans, but you should NEVER pay the ridiculous resale amount for this thing. Seriously, don’t do it.
Older Hot Wheels sets, like this Mario Circuit Track, have already made their way down under (Target has it listed for only $129) so it’s likely this new release will as well. For now we just play the waiting game…
