Graffiti artist Scottie Marsh has paid tribute to the late electronic music producer SOPHIE with a touching new mural in Sydney.

The groundbreaking singer, musician, DJ and record producer tragically passed away after falling from a roof earlier this year.

A statement issued by SOPHIE’s team at the time described the artist as “one of the most influential” of the last decade.

“It is with profound sadness that I have to inform you that musician and producer SOPHIE passed away this morning around 4am in Athens, where the artist had been living, following a sudden accident,” the statement read.

“SOPHIE was a pioneer of a new sound, one of the most influential artists in the last decade. Not only for ingenious production and creativity but also for the message and visibility that was achieved. An icon of liberation.”

In tribute to SOPHIE, Marsh has now debuted his latest mural, located on the corner of Bray street and Concord street in Erkinsville, Sydney.

Marsh is no stranger to creating portraits of some famous faces, including the likes of George Michael, The Kid Laroi and Paul Kelly.

Sydney-based gay production duo Stereogamous, who organised the tribute, explained via Instagram that they wanted to honour SOPHIE by comissioning Marsh to create the “beautiful mural for the lovers and dreamers.”

“We adore SOPHIE so much. Losing her has been a painful experience for our community. We wanted to honour her and Scottie Marsh has turned out this beautiful mural for the lovers and dreamers,” they wrote.

“Her bravery and production will inspire the planet for eons to come. A daughter of all of music’s outliers, and uniquely her own,” they continued.”

“In the words of @jonnoxrevanche ‘Pretty spectacular that one person can contain the analytical mind of Wendy Carlos/aphex twin as well as the showgirl sensibilities of Amanda Lepore/early 2000s Kylie Minogue. May we all aspire to alienate heterosexual men at electronic music festivals in her honour.'”
