To celebrate 30 seasons of The Simpsons hitting Disney Plus, we’ve listed musical numbers that apply to the workplace. Just mute your mic if you’re on Zoom!
What an interesting time to be alive. The family from Springfield that puts the ‘fun’ in dysfunctional has already hit 30 seasons, and has been acquired by the same company that brought us Mickey Mouse. Since many of us are working from home across multiple screens, why not combine productivity with procrastination as you see which Simpsons musical number fits into your workplace.
#1 ‘See My Vest’ – For when you put effort into your outfit:
“Are you sure you want to go ahead with this?” Waylan Smithers asks Mr Burns before opening his wardrobe. “You have a pretty full wardrobe as it is.” “Yes,” muses Burns, “but not completely full.”
Now that some of our colleagues can’t see the top half of our outfit (and given some video meetings call for crazy hats and the like), we need to bring our A-game to our small little screen. With lyrics such as “See this hat, ‘Twas my cat/My evening wear – vampire bat,” and “grizzly bear underwear,” this Simpsons musical number shows that some of us do not know how to dress casually. Even on Casual Fridays.
#2 ‘Monorail Song’ – For when you finally make a decision in a meeting:
In this Simpsons musical number, the people of Springfield struggle to decide how to spend their much-needed funds at a town hall. “Tell us your idea and we’ll vote for it,” the mayor demands to smooth salesman Lyle Lanley.
Soon the Simpsons folk are voting on a new monorail, except for Marge who is concerned about the broken town infrastructure. But “Main Street’s still all cracked and broken!” she exclaims. “Sorry Mom, the mob has spoken,” dances Bart jovially. Sorry to Susan from HR in the workplace, but sometimes your colleagues can’t make a decision and a flashy salesman or consultant just does it for us.
#3 ‘We Do (The Stonecutter’s Song)’ – For when you have competition between the departments:
As the elite members of the Stonecutters chink glasses, this Simpsons musical number shows us who really makes things happen. “Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down? We do! We do!”

Now imagine you’re in the workplace and the journalists who make the content are battling against the developers who write the code for the network. Or, think more corporate and get lawyers or engineers convincing their friends at trivia nights who builds the bridges or fights for humans rights.
Same thing, really. Bang your fist on the table at your next workplace event and sing “We do, we do!” It’ll win you a promotion, promise.
#4 Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart – For when you pack your own lunch:
If you never buy lunch in the workplace, then this doesn’t apply to you. But if you have a regular shop that’s closest to your office (or just down the road from your house), then this Simpsons musical number is for you. The Simpsons family strut and stride with Apu in this musical number, proclaiming “Their floors are sticky mart/They made Dad sicky-mart!”
No matter how hard we try to reward ourselves for bringing a lunch, sometimes you just want to get something from the shop. Who needs the Kwik-E-Mart? I do, I certainly do.
#5 ‘Cut every corner’ – For when you’re running late with that report:

I do not advocate for sloppy, rushed work habits. But this Simpsons musical number relates oh so much when it’s 5.30pm and something just falls in your lap. In this ep, Shary Bobbins is the practically perfect nanny who tells us “Don’t pout, don’t sob/Just do a half-assed job.”
Every kid knows the trick of doing it half-heartedly so that your parent will fix it later. Humming ‘Cut every corner,’ while you desperately try to finish the report handed to you at the last second will yield similar results, right?
Perhaps you don’t want to think about work right now. You could instead turn to iso-baking, given that the recipe for steamed hams is now available.
The Simpsons is available to stream on Disney Plus now.
