A day after launching a series of bug fixes, the Cyberpunk 2077 devs are hinting that the game’s multiplayer plans have been scrapped.

It’s been a big week for Cyberpunk 2077. Yesterday the devs behind the game dropped their latest patch to help fix the notoriously broken game. Today, they’re announcing a change in direction for its multiplayer mode. Namely, that it probably has been buried – at least in its current form.

During the company’s most recent strategy update, president Adam Kiciński noted that online experiences are something the team wants to include in future games. That said, it doesn’t look like it will be the main focus anymore.

“Previously we hinted that our next triple-A would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but we have decided to reconsider this plan,” Kiciński said. “Given our new, more systematic and agile approach, instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day. We are building an online technology that can be seamlessly integrated into development of our future games.”

According to IGN, earlier comments indicated that Cybperpunk’s more ambitious multiplayer title would be developed in parallel to the main game. But what now?

Will you eventually be able to visit a friend’s world, or co-exist in one together? For the moment it’s anybody’s guess, and we can’t imagine we’ll get more info anytime soon. Especially as fans are still patiently waiting to play the proper PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Cyberpunk.

What we’re trying to say is don’t expect to hear more about any of this until 2022 at best.

The news comes off the back of the announcement that CD Projekt is getting ready to work on new games in both The Witcher and Cyberpunk franchises at the same time beginning in 2022. You know, because they really nailed working on one game and all.
