Seems like we have confirmation as to who will be replacing Tony Stark as Peter Parker’s mentor figure in Spider-Man 3.

Looking back at the big “Tony Stark meets Doctor Strange” moment in Avengers: Infinity War, it really felt like two blokes cut from the same cloth butting heads (and egos).

Both are white, have a physical limitation, are narcissistic, and have similarly groomed facial hair. Hell, they might as well be the same character.

Perhaps that’s why Marvel decided to pick Doctor Strange to replace Tony Stark as Peter Parker’s mentor figure in the upcoming Spider-Man 3.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Benedict Cumberbatch will be donning his Iron Man suit cloak of levitation and reprising his Marvel superhero role for the next installment of the Tom Holland series of Spider-Man films.

This big move sees Peter Parker and Doctor Strange team up for the third time, though having Cumberbatch taking on the pseudo-father figure role this time around will bring an extra new element to that relationship.

Cumberbatch’s involvement in Spider-Man 3 comes shortly after it was announced that Jamie Foxx will also reprise his role as Electro, a part he originally played in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was part of the Andrew Garfield series of Spider-Man films.

Not sure how this crossover between difference Spider-Man cinematic universes will work but perhaps that’s why Marvel Studios is bringing Doctor Strange into the fray since that character is all about multiverses and whatnot.

As for when we’ll see Spider-Man 3 (or whatever it’ll end up being titled), it is penciled in for a December 17th, 2021, release date, though that is likely to change given how the COVID-19 pandemic has wrecked havoc on the production and release schedule of several films.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see whether Spider-Man 3 makes its scheduled October production start date.
