Spider-Man 3 is shaping up to be a wild ride as an old villain is penciled in to make an appearance in the film.

I’m probably preaching to the choir when I say that 2007’s Spider-Man 3 was a bit of a clusterfuck and not in a good way.

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are doing their own version of Spider-Man 3, one wonders if it’ll go down the same path even though the first two films in their web-slinger trilogy have been pretty good so far.

As it turns out, the MCU’s Spider-Man 3 is indeed shaping up like a clusterfuck but in a good way as they’re bringing back the most unexpected villain, one that no one would’ve seriously predicted.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, classic Spider-Man villain Doctor Octopus will be in the MCU’s upcoming Spidey film. However, it won’t be a new version of the character.

It is reported that Alfred Molina will be reprising his Doc Ock role from 2004’s critically acclaimed Spider-Man 2 for the MCU’s third Spider-Man film, which sort of confirms pervious rumours about the character’s involvement after Molina was spotted on the set of Spider-Man 3.

Well this is quite the surprise.

With previous reports that Jamie Foxx is reprising the role of Amazing Spider-Man 2 villain Electro, one has to wonder what sort of crazy things the MCU are doing.

It sure sounds like the MCU are doing their version of Into The Spider-Verse, which isn’t the worst idea in the world given how that film is arguably the greatest superhero film ever made. Then again, packing so much into one film puts Spider-Man 3 at risk of becoming another, well, Spider-Man 3.

We’ll see if the MCU manages to pull off what appears to be a wildly ambitious plan for Spider-Man 3 when it comes out on December 17th, 2021.
